Tats boring

Whilst doing some particularly boring web work this afternoon, I was wondering about tatoos. In particular, how boring they are. Everyone who has them picks from a list of four types: a) an animal, b) some glyph that would look better on a glass engraving, c) a mystical or tribal design, d) a word or words in a foreign language, sometimes misspelt or incorrectly translated.

Where are the interesting designs? And I don’t mean barcodes. That’s the fifth type. I forgot about that. Sorry.

Wouldn’t media be really dull if all advertisers and design houses had to choose logos from that set of five? Want a company logo? Make it a tribal squiggle. Nope. It doesn’t work that way. Actually, the only breakouts from these five types has come from companies wanting specific brand attention at sporting events. That is, one person partially or completely nude, with said company’s logo on their body. Even that’s dull.

So I’m going to start a campaign for interesting tattoos. Unfortunately, the domain name cooltattoos.com is taken. If people want to decorate themselves please make it interesting. Something I can look at when I’m on the bus, or a long train journey.

If I see another celtic design I’ll scream.
