Ayria: Infiltrating My Way Through The System
There’s a photo of Rachel Stevens on the cover of the Herald Magazine today. It’s another promotional piece where Rachel explains how tough her life was and the comfort she found in S Club 7. Bull. That’ll be the new album talking dear.
Fortunately there is an alternative. Ayria’s back with her new 10 track EP, featuring My Revenge On The World from the forthcoming album Flicker.
These tracks are the first written solely by Jennifer Parkin. Gone are the nods towards club-dance and trance, instead, everything bangs hard, particularly the remixes. There’s less emphasis on melody, more on rhythms, and the leads and loops which embed themselves in amongst the rhythms. Similar to the differences between club-trance and psy-trance. Giving more space for the vocals. Consider also, for example, the Cycletribe and PTIncision remixes of Cutting, the former emphasises the lyrics, the latter moves things around a bit, hiding the lyrics behind driving synth leads.
The original version of Infiltrating My Way Through The System is however more traditional, with its pads and DM synths, harking back to Debris. Either way, it’s nice to hear audiogenic material that breaks away from the bland niceness of mainstream rip-offs of electro. Rachel, please take note.
