Fixed Windows

Here’s something I discovered today: if I drag contents from a Windows XP folder window over to another folder window, but that second window is partially hidden, nothing happens. I can’t be sure where I’m dragging to.

Of course, in Mac OSX, a partially hidden Finder window pops to the front so I can see where I’m dragging to. The difference in usability is remarkable.

Of course, you have a taskbar in windows. If the other folder is already open (which clearly it must, you merely drag the contents to the partially hidden folder on the taskbar, which then “unhides” it.

A difference, yes, but given that both are equally intuitive, I don’t think it’s remarkable.

The difference is important, because in Windows I have to drag content to somewhere where the window isn’t.
