New media and the BBC

BBC director general Mark Thompson has given new media an expanded role in the corporation, meaning that when a programme is being made, all media outlets should be considered simultaneously.

Great. Now go sort out BBCi, your interactive TV service. Because I’m not too happy with:

  • Missing pages
  • Poor update rates of content
  • Badly formatted content (e.g. cricket scores)
  • Articles being cut off before their conclusion
  • [UPDATE] Duplicated content
  • Pages linking to the wrong content
  • [UPDATE] Pages that never load

Teletext was actually far superior to what we have today.

As I use NTL I still use ceefax/teletext, I never visit the digital equivalent it is so slow and unwieldy and does not have page numbers – it also does not have all the content.

    Hi,
I think it’s great that our national broadcasting service is making waves with interactive content on the Internet however it like people say, it just is not on par with teletex and with the abilities of our modern technology it is dissapointing to see. When is someone going to push the boundaries and actually come up with something new and orginal that will really make the Internet the preferred choice of broadcasting platform? Not for a long while yet methinks, so I guess I’ll have to build my own. Dna.
