Beware Safari 3 Beta

If your Safari 3 Beta hangs on installing, you might end up with a Mac OS X system that can’t run any Cocoa applications. This includes the Installer, which kinda screws up anything else you attempt to do to undo the problem.

Here’s my solution which I posted on Apple’s Discussions forum. It involves moving back the files that Safari 3 beta archives as part of its install actions.

Hi Man! thank you for posting the solution for the Safari 3 problem, now I have some NEW problem, I have a MacBook Pro, I installed the Safari 3 and it was a big mess to get my cocoa applications back (but I did it thanks to you), and now the installer asked me to install the 10.4.10 and after I tried to install it, it told me that there was some error in the installation, now the only thing I get is the grey apple screen and the loader spinning forever, I tried also to start it in safe mode (holding shift) on reboot, but nothing, I can’t start the computer,

I’m a new mac user and I was pretty happy until Safari 3 and now I find out that OS X is the same crap than Windows, don’t know what to do now.

Funny fact: I also had windows in another partition (bootcamp) and not even windows starts.

What can I do? Any idea?

    Thanks again, Antonino Medina

    Hi Antonino!

I’ve not updated to 10.4.10, but issues with Mac OS X upgrades usually involve some third party applications that make significant changes to parts of the operating system that such applications shouldn’t be touching. Throughout the life of Mac OS X (right from 10.0), none of the updates have caused any problems to my Macs.

Do you have any idea what the installation error was?

Try some of the solutions given here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464

And, if you do manage to get your Mac to boot, get the 10.4.10 Combo Updater, which should sort out the issue: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdateintel.html
