I’m a sucker for songwriting multi-instrumentalists. Take The Waking begins with mere organ notes, before a brief diversion into Sonic Youth guitar work. The real beauty of this lovely opening track from You Sound, Reflect is then revealed, in looped percussion, guitars and bitter-sweet melody. Only the sighs of backing vocals give you any indication that this is a song. Yes, I make that distinction.
